Hi guys! I’m Kelsey.

I’m happiest when I’m traveling and discovering new places. I have an itch to travel and get antsy if I’m in one place for too long. I love spending my time exploring what this beautiful world has to offer.

I’m a 25 year old American girl, originally from Boston, Massachusetts who ditched the normality of home life at an early age. In University I studied abroad in Australia which originally sparked my passion to travel and explore this remarkable world. Before I even graduated I knew the 9-5 life wasn’t for me. The desire to travel had become an overwhelming need.

I worked my butt off, juggling three jobs to save every penny I could before finally setting off back to Australia after graduation. And so began my journey on the other side of the world!

After six months of traveling, working, and loving life in Oceania, I relocated to Thailand. I’m currently teaching English in Bangkok and traveling SE Asia on the weekends.

I thrive off of spontaneity and adventure. I moved abroad with not much solidified; fueled by that independent, rebellious, backpacker vibe, and managed to establish a life in Thailand. I’ve been traveling and living abroad for almost three years now and I couldn’t be happier!

I hope to continue to fill my life with countless new adventures and my passport pages to the brim with stamps.

Kelsey’s Travel Speak – Travelogue (unedited)

Flying under the radar of top places to visit in SE Asia is Malaysia. Offering rolling fields, picturesque beaches, and a large city feel, Malaysia truly has it all. I’ve just returned from a measly six day trip to this beautiful, underrated country and I know I’ll definitely be back.

Kuala Lumpur, the hub of Malaysia, and the historical Georgetown (Penang), were two of my favorite stops during my trip across the border.

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is jammed packed with everything from famous skyscrapers; luscious, green parks; delicious food; outstanding cultural events; and amazingly nice people. KL reminds me a lot of Singapore, with a strong Western vibe, but still boasting the low prices of SE Asia.

With the famous Petronas Towers, the Kuala Lumpur Tower, and the Batu Caves, KL offers plenty of epic picture taking and sightseeing. I spent most of my time wandering around during the day, exploring the hidden gems of the city. I discovered authentic Indian food, a bustling China town, and a lively night market. An added bonus: Kuala Lumpur lets woman drink free every night of the week! Needless to say I experienced the crazy night life that absorbs the city after dark.

Whether you are drawn to KL for its architecture, shopping, picture taking, food, or nightlife, this amazing city will not disappoint!

Georgetown

A complete contrast to Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown is a quaint town located on the coast of the beautiful Malacca Strait. Filled with local cafes and cobblestone roads, Georgetown has a relaxing, ‘hipstery’ vibe to it.

I spent most of my first day there wandering around looking at Georgetown’s famous street art. The art, created by local artists, can be found throughout the town and can result in some pretty awesome pictures.

Penang is also home to the famous Penang Hill which is the highest point in Penang. I took a tram, almost completely vertical, up to this beautiful viewpoint which overlooks the entire area.

Georgetown is much more mellow compared KL; filled with cyclists, antique shops and local venders, but just as amazing in its own way. An added bonus: the paradise island of Langkawi is only about two hours away by boat and offers crystal clear water and unforgettable sunsets.

All in all, if you find yourself traveling SE Asia, I wouldn’t skip out on Malaysia. Whether you visit Kuala Lumpur, Penang, or you’re able to visit both, you won’t be disappointed!
